Maine schools are invited to host the AT&T “It Can Wait” program, a national initiative designed to educate youth about the dangers of texting while driving.
Teaching the dangers of texting while driving is especially crucial to young people (age 16-24), who account for 13 percent of all drivers and 36 percent of all accidents. Texting drivers are at an even greater risk, being 23 percent more likely to be in an accident. Further, data shows more than 100,000 crashes a year involve drivers who are texting, resulting in deaths and life-changing injuries. For more information view the “It Can Wait” documentary on www.itcanwait.com.
The following are the available dates for schools to host this program: September 9 and 17 and October 7, 15, and 20. If your school is interested in participating this fall, contact Dorothy Canelli at dorothy.canelli@maine.gov.
