Maine DOE offering PEPG development grants to SAUs

The following priority notice was sent today to all Maine school districts.

In an effort to support school administrative units (SAUs) develop their PEPG systems, the Maine DOE is proud to offer grants of $4,600 for the purpose of PEPG professional development. To receive these targeted funds, SAUs must complete the PEPG Implementation Grant Application and respond to the Department’s Intent to Pilot survey (released in June) by Thursday, Oct. 15.

This initiative is a calculated focused effort to help districts jumpstart their PEPG systems and further develop understanding of quality evaluation systems for teachers and principals across the state of Maine. The targeted funds may only be used for implementation and development of PEPG systems. This includes all aspects of development and comprehension of professional practice models for teachers, student learning and growth measures, student learning objective development, effectiveness ratings, implementation procedures, and PEPG language development or other supports and training for PEPG system development.

The Department encourages all eligible SAUs to take full advantage of these funds in order to further support staff and we recommend SAUs continue to collaborate with other districts when considering the use of these funds in developing PEPG systems.

As part of the implementation of Performance Evaluation and Professional Growth (PEPG) systems, Rule Chapter 180 and Maine Statute Title 20-A, Chapter 508 require that SAUs begin piloting their PEPG systems during the 2015-16 school year. The Maine DOE recognizes the hard work and effort each district makes in order to comply with the law.
