The Maine Department of Education and the Maine Arts Commission are holding a celebration of Excellence in Maine Visual and Performing Arts Education hosted by First Lady Ann LePage on April 26. The celebration will be held from 2-4 p.m. in the Hall of Flags at the State House in Augusta.
Joining the First Lady are State Board of Education Chair Martha Harris, Maine Arts Commission Executive Director Julie Richards, and Deputy Commissioner Bill Beardsley. Representative MaryAnne Kinney (Knox) and Senator Cathy Breen (District 25) will also be present to recognize students from their districts.
The Excellence in Maine Visual and Performing Arts Education is a rotating exhibit that displays artwork throughout the State House complex and the Department of Education in the Cross Building.
Sixty-three students from MSAD 51 (Cumberland/North Yarmouth), RSU 3 (Unity), and AOS 91 (Mt. Desert Island) will have their artwork displayed through the end of May.
Mrs. LePage will be presenting each art student a certificate and a letter from Governor Paul R. LePage recognizing the talent of Maine students. Additionally, musicians from Greely High School, in Cumberland Center, will perform at the celebration and be recognized for their excellence in the performing arts.
