Maine DOE helps send kids to summer camp

The Maine Department of Education Morale Team recently created two venues designed to send a child to camp this summer. The first fundraising event was the “Pick a Stick” game where employees selected a Popsicle stick bearing a dollar amount which the employee then donated in the hopes of winning a jackpot. The winner of that game kindly donated the jackpot winnings back to the cause.

chili 1The second event was a Cinco de Mayo luncheon- chili and chowder contest. Ten employees, armed with their loaded crockpots not only shared their culinary skills, but were in the running for first, second, and third place. More so, employees were treated to 11 varieties of palate-teasing chowder and chili.

Between the two events, Maine DOE raised $544 which will send two children to summer camp through the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers organization (plus a little extra for another child’s summer camp fees).

The Moral Team hopes to have such events two times a year to raise funds for charitable giving.

The chili-chowder-contest was the first such fundraiser, and the staff is anticipating the next one which may be not be as hot but sweeter with desserts, all to raise funds for charity.
