Request purchase of new schools buses by Nov. 25

Each year, new school bus purchase applications open on Nov. 1 and close on Nov.  25.  The due date and instructions are found here on the Maine DOE Reporting Calendar.

On Nov. 1, the Department in collaboration with the Office of Information Technology launched the first design phase of a new school transportation data system called NEO Transportation. Information for Maine school bus operators traveling in New Hampshire

The State of New Hampshire requires non-New Hampshire government entities operating qualified motor vehicles in New Hampshire, including school buses, to license under the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). Maine government entities operating qualified motor vehicles in Maine who also operate in New Hampshire, even if only occasionally, are subject to the licensing, fuel decal and quarterly fuel tax reporting requirements under IFTA. Portland Public Schools’ transportation director wins EPA Lifetime Achievement Award

Kevin Mallory, the Portland Public Schools’ transportation director, has won a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in reducing pollution from the district’s school bus fleet and raising awareness about the benefits of greener school transportation. The award will be presented on June 26 in a ceremony in Boston.

Enter student poster contest to promote school bus safety

Any student enrolled in a public, parochial or other private elementary or middle school in the United States of America, Canada or an overseas U.S. military installation may submit artwork to the 2013 National School Bus Safety Poster Contest. Posters must be received at NAPT Headquarters by Oct. 1, 2013.
