State offers facilities, business and maintenance staff training
The Educational Plant Maintenance Association of Maine will deliver the 45th Annual School Facilities Conference this summer. The conference will be held at Colby College June 24-26, 2013. School administrators, facilities directors, business managers, maintenance teams and custodial staff are invited to attend. Registration is free for public school staff. This is a multi-track conference on leadership, maintenance and custodial care. This conference provides a unique venue for school staff to collaborate and learn how to manage buildings to foster positive learning environments.

Governor’s STEM academy meets for second time
This week the Maine DOE, in collaboration with the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance, convened the second meeting of the Maine Governor’s Academy for STEM Education Leadership.
The Governor’s Academy has been supported by state leadership at the Governor’s Office since 1999 and is supported by federal Title II funds and participating districts. World languages initiative hosts institute, seeks teacher leaders
Once again this June, the Maine Department of Education, in collaboration with the Foreign Language Association of Maine (FLAME) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), will hold a summer institute for Maine world language teachers (as both regular participants and teacher leaders) from June 25-28 at the University of Maine Farmington. K-8 educators invited to summer iPad retreat
Registration for iPadagogy, a summer retreat for educators on using iPads in the K-8 classroom, is now open. This relaxing, casual retreat, held June 23-25 at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, will include cutting-edge presentations by teachers, school technology staff, guest speakers and educational administrators, all sharing their expertise and experiences in the use of iPads as an educational tool.

Attend CTE literacy training
Maine Administrators of Career and Technical Education (MACTE) and the Maine DOE CTE team are co-sponsoring a day-long “Developing Instructional Literacy Strategies for Maine CTE Educators” training. This interactive professional development opportunity offers CTE instructors a practical working definition of literacy that lends itself to integration in a CTE curriculum. Participants in the training will leave with a set of literacy strategies that can be applied to their CTE instructional classrooms and shops.
