The Maine Department of Education would like to welcome Hewlett Packard to the Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) family. As you may know, HP has been selected to be the preferred provider for the MLTI program. Over the coming weeks, we look forward to continuing to support schools’ learning goals through MLTI and beginning a new partnership with districts, HP and MLTI.
HP has a dedicated education team and is fully invested to help make the change not only possible, but positive and rewarding. Many leading school systems across the country and around the globe turn to HP to provide a complete technology solution. You can learn about just a sampling of these U.S. partnerships at www.guide2digitallearning.com.
HP’s offering for MLTI was designed to meet the unique needs of the state and includes professional development specialists, instructional workshops, leadership and technical seminars, and a one-stop portal for all professional development resources for any educator in the state, leveraging best practices globally from HP, Intel and Microsoft.
A primary reason for HP being selected was that HP provided a computing experience that will deliver both college and career readiness for Maine’s students. “These [HP] laptops will provide students with the opportunity to enhance their learning and give them experience on the same technology and software they will see in their future careers,” said Governor Paul R. LePage in his announcement of the award this past weekend.
To assist schools with their questions and help with the transition, MTLI is hosting numerous district roadshows for school staff to attend in person (more information to follow). Additionally, we are hosting informational webinars on Tuesday, May 7 at 9 a.m. and Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. where we will share information about the devices, networking, software and professional development offerings. We will allow time for your questions during the webinars. Afterwards, a link to a recording of the webinars as well as a transcript of the Q&A will be posted on the MLTI website at www.mlti.org/deployment/.

These webinars will provide educators insight as to how this new solution aligns with modern day transformations regarding cloud technology, supports attainment of the Common Core standards and prepares Maine students for college and careers.
We look forward to working closely with our partners in the field in “making it matter” for the students, educators and community of Maine and in helping educators deploy the next generation of the MLTI solution.
