Once again this June, the Maine Department of Education, in collaboration with the Foreign Language Association of Maine (FLAME) and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), will hold a summer institute for Maine world language teachers (as both regular participants and teacher leaders) from June 25-28 at the University of Maine Farmington. This is the beginning of Phase II of the statewide initiative, World Languages in Maine Schools: Standards-based Instruction and Assessment, which encompasses both modern and classical languages. Information about the institute and the search for nine new regional world language teacher leaders is available online. The deadline for the teacher leader application is May 20. The deadline for summer institute registration for regular participants is May 31. The Maine DOE and FLAME encourage participation from teachers of all languages and levels, K-12.
