The application for this year’s Community Oriented Policing Services Secure Our Schools (SOS) Program grant recently opened.
The funding is for the payment of up to 50 percent of approved costs to improve school safety and security. SOS grant funds must supplement, and not supplant, other funds that have already been committed by the grantee.
Grant applications are due May 24, 2013, and require collaboration with local police.
Yarmouth and RSU 14 previously received SOS grant funds. It may be useful for other schools to contact these previous recipients to learn about how they prepared a successful grant. The grant helped the SAUs with several safety items including a safety audit/risk assessment (conducted by Safe Havens International).
