Communities invited to annual Literacy for ME conference

The Maine Department of Education’s Literacy for ME initiative is partnering with the Barbara Bush Foundation as a co-sponsor of its annual Literacy Connections Conference, open to anyone with an interest in the initiative. This conference will allow attendees to learn more about a variety of aspects of the Literacy for ME initiative, community literacy planning, and general literacy topics across the birth-adult span.

Innovative Maine Schools selected to present at conference

The schools will share successful strategies with colleagues from across New England

AUGUSTA – Three Maine secondary schools—Falmouth High School, Sanford High School, and United Technologies Center (Bangor)—have been invited to represent the state at a regional conference on effective strategies for improving teaching and learning in the 21st century.

Participate in free webinars on Summer Food Service Program

The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Office of Strategic Initiatives, Partnerships and Outreach is offering the public free, weekly webinars on the Summer Food Service Program. These webinars will review SFSP participation requirements, cover resources and available tools, and highlight successful programs and outreach practices from around the country. At the end of each webinar, FNS program experts will answer listeners’ questions. Listeners should contact the Maine DOE if they have additional questions.

Math and science partnership projects call for vendor proposals

The Maine Department of Education (NCLB Title II, Part B) has a requirement for new Mathematics and Science Partnership grant-funded projects to provide high quality professional development to teachers of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In accordance with State procurement practices, the Department announces the publication of a Request for Proposals for the professional development.

Calling physics, physical science & math teachers for annual conference

Maine physics, physical science and math teachers are invited to attend the Annual High School Physics and Physical Science Teachers Meeting at UMaine in Orono. This event is hosted by the University of Maine Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education (RiSE Center), and the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development.

College of the Atlantic announces summer courses for K-12 teachers

College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor is offering K-12 teachers one- and two-week field-based courses in multiple disciplines for graduate and continuing education credit. Attendees will learn on the shores and trails of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Partial scholarships are available, and applications should be received by March 17, 2013.
