The Maine Event: National Conference on Positive School Climate at Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland will be held on June 23-24. This locally-planned national conference provides training and information about key components to many successful school initiatives around building and sustaining a positive school climate, reducing bullying, and developing strategies to increase student engagement.

MLTI student conference draws over one thousand

Armed with iPads and laptops, middle and high school students from more than 50 Maine schools descended on the UMaine campus in Orono last month. Joining them were their teachers, chaperones, and Maine’s Learning Through Technology Team with partners from Apple, Cisco, Network Maine, Husson University, and UMaine. In all, more than 1,200 joined together for the thirteenth annual MLTI Student Conference.

Certification requirements for special education teachers update

On May 16, the Maine Department of Education issued a Priority Notice about the federal requirement under ESSA that all teachers of students with disabilities be fully certified. Maine DOE estimates approximately 300 to 400 teachers may be affected by this requirement.

Regional training for ESEA Coordinators and Business Managers

The Maine Department of Education is providing regional training for Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Coordinators and Business Managers this summer. This training is also for individual administrators and bookkeepers who manage federal ESEA programs and funds with responsibilities for the ESEA Consolidated Application and Performance Report.

Maine contracts with Edupoint to replace State-level student information data system

The Maine Department of Education has entered into a two year contract with Edupoint Educational Systems, LLC to provide a State Level Student Information and Reporting System (SSIRS), called EduPoint Synergy.

MaineCare Seed payment adjustments made, report review by June 25, 2016

The 2015-16 subsidy checks for General Purpose Aid for local schools will reflect adjustments for MaineCare Seed payments paid by the Maine DOE on behalf of school administrative units (SAUs) for the following:

  • 2016 Quarter 2 MaineCare payment adjustments
  • 2016 Quarter 1 Corrections
  • 2016 Quarter 1 Additional Claims
