Alfond Foundation announces gift to Maine community colleges, Good Will-Hinckley

AUGUSTA – Governor Paul LePage joined the Harold Alfond Foundation today to announce a $10.85 million gift to the Maine Community College System (MCCS) and to the Good Will-Hinckley (GWH) school in Hinckley, Maine.

Harvard institute focuses on coordinated PreK-3 approach

Teams of Maine educators can apply to attend a four-day institute at the Harvard Graduate School of Education this spring that focuses on implementing a coordinated approach to instruction from pre-Kindergarten through grade three.

ARRA IDEA Part B performance reporting closed Jan. 13; late reports due now

Performance reporting for American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds awarded under IDEA Part B closed Jan. 13, 2012, at 5 p.m. As of that date, however, 54 school administrative units had yet to submit this required grant end report.

“Education Evolving” lays out plan to engage students, give them more say in how they learn

AUGUSTA – Students will play a more active role in organizing their own learning and have more choice – such as internships, inter-disciplinary classes, independent study, and vocational education – in how they learn and achieve standards, according to a strategic plan for education unveiled by Maine ‘s education commissioner on Tuesday.
