The Maine Department of Education has revised its proposed changes to the Maine Unified Special Education Regulations in response to comments from the public.
The revised proposals for amending Rule Chapter 101 have been posted to the Department of Education’s Proposed Rules and Rule Changes web page.
The Department had proposed two separate Chapter 101 rule changes, and the Rule Changes web page lists each proposed change separately. One rule change is meant to reflect changes to state statute, while the other is meant to reflect changes to federal regulations governing Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
In addition to the revised rule change proposals, the Department has posted to the same page summaries of public comments offered in response to the original proposals and the Department’s response to each.
The Chapter 101 rule proposals will next be taken up by the Legislature, which must approve the rules in order for them to take effect. Public hearings on both proposed rule changes are scheduled for Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. in Room 202 of the Cross State Office Building in Augusta.
The bill numbers are L.D. 1724, which reflects changes to state statute, and L.D. 1782, which reflects changes to federal regulations.
