Revisions made to Title 20-A, Maine Education Statutes

The State of Maine Revisor of Statutes Office has determined that there were conflicts in several areas of statutory language enacted from the First Regular Session of the 125th Maine Legislature.

The following corrections have been made on the Legislative statute web site:

School bus purchase deadline extended to Dec. 9

Note: The following notice was sent to Maine school superintendents on Dec. 6, 2011.

The School Bus Purchase Program due date has been extended from November 25, 2011 to December 9, 2011. Applications received after December 9 will be declined for Cycle FY2012-2013 Round 1 review. Also, please recall that while Round 2 review is possible during late spring, it is not guaranteed as it is subject to bus cancellations and available funding.

Public forums, online feedback will be used in request for federal flexibility

AUGUSTA — The federal government is offering Maine, like all other states, a chance to develop its own system of accountability and recognition of schools — allowing the state to jettison what many now consider unrealistic and unfair requirements and negative labels in the current No Child Left Behind Act.
