Building brighter pathways for students! Mountain Valley Community Middle School (Regional School Unit No. 10) has created an alternative education program centered on connection, hands-on learning, and helping students find success in a supportive environment. As a reminder, the Maine DOE Coordinated School Health Team is hosting its biennial School Nurse Summer Institute (SNSI) on July 28 and 29, 2026, at Sugarloaf Resort in Carrabassett Valley. The Maine Department of Education (DOE) is pleased to join the Alternative Education Association of Maine (AEA) in celebrating three outstanding educators as the recipients of the 2026 Alternative Education Educator of the Year Award. Congratulations to Kathleen (Kaity) Getchell from the Learning Center at Frank Jewett – Bonny Eagle High School, MSAD 6 Central Office, Tristen Hinkle from the Marti Stevens Learning Center, MSAD 54, and Heather Whitaker from Gorham Middle School, Gorham School Department. The Maine Department of Education (DOE) Offices of Teaching and Learning and Innovation are pleased to announce that registration is now open for EngageMEnt 2026-2027, a statewide professional learning opportunity designed to support educators in exploring innovative, engaging, and impactful practices for teaching and learning. The Maine Department of Education (DOE) is offering a free professional learning opportunity for educators interested in becoming trained facilitators of professional learning communities (PLCs) focused on emergent literacy for children aged 3 to 6. Congratulations and best wishes to State Board of Education student member and Maine DOE Student Cabinet Co-chair Cedar Worster, a recent graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, who recently completed her two-year term serving on the Maine State Board of Education. Every student deserves a pathway to success. Carl J. Lamb Elementary School in Springvale (Sanford School Department) opened its doors on Saturday, April 11, 2026, to host the second annual Maine Adaptive Music Summit. Organized by Carl J. Lamb music teacher Hattie Skvorak, the summit brought together music educators, special education teachers, and educational technicians for a full day of professional development focused on adaptive music education. Innovation, creativity, and collaboration were on full display at the 2026 MLTI Student Conference held recently!
