Shelly Moody, Maine’s 2011 Teacher of the Year, is in Washington, D.C., this week with her counterparts from across the United States.

President Barack Obama and U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan honored the teachers of the year from all 50 states on May 3 in a White House Rose Garden ceremony.

Maine Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen will join Moody, a teacher at Williams Elementary School in Oakland, for a May 4 event honoring the teachers of the year.
