Curriculum group offers 2nd Common Core conference

Teachers, administrators and school board members will gain insight into Maine’s implementation of the Common Core state standards and federal education policy during a daylong conference on Jan. 27 in Brewer.

The Maine Department of Education and the Maine Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (Maine ASCD) are sponsoring “Connecting with the Common Core Standards,” which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jeff’s Catering and Event Center.

The gathering will feature updates on Maine’s implementation of the standards from Maine DOE English Language Arts specialist Patsy Dunton and Lee Anne Larsen, the Department’s literacy specialist. Michele Mailhot, Maine DOE’s mathematics specialist, will offer an update on the implementation of the math standards.

David Griffith, public policy director for the national Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, will also speak.

The snow date for the event is Jan. 30.
