Youth Health Survey data now available

Data from the 2011 Local Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey are now available upon request.

Data for school units that participated in the 2011 survey have been processed and can be obtained by contacting Jean Zimmerman at jean.zimmerman@maine.gov. No date has yet been set for making the data available on the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey website.

The Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey is administered in February of every odd year to gauge the health and health habits of Maine public school students in kindergarten through grade 12. Data for students in kindergarten through grade 3 are obtained through parent interviews; data for students in grades 5 through 12 are obtained through direct student surveys.

State- and local-level data from the 2009 survey and more information about the survey are still available on the survey website. Local-level data are only available to those with the appropriate credentials.

When reviewing 2011 data, keep the following considerations in mind:

  • The individual school administrative unit reports compare 2009 and 2011 data at both the local and state levels.
  • There has been a change in the methodology of cleaning and weighting the 2011 data. For that reason, the 2009 health survey data were reprocessed using the same methodology to improve the data’s accuracy and to allow for comparison between the 2009 and 2011 data. Due to the new methodology, school units may notice differences in the percentages between the new 2009 weighted data and the previous 2009 data school units received in 2010.
