Online training for reporting abuse, neglect

Teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, bus drivers and others responsible for student welfare in school are required by Maine law to report to their supervisors or to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services whenever they have reasonable cause to suspect child abuse or neglect has occurred.

Mandated reporters, as they are known, can participate in an online training to familiarize themselves with their responsibilities under the law and the methods they can use to report abuse and neglect.

  • The online training is available on the Department of Health and Human Services website. Access it by clicking here.
  • Read the applicable Maine statute to view a list of “mandated reporters.”
