The Maine Department of Education has developed a companion document to the legally-required procedural safeguards. The language of the procedural safeguards has been simplified and the content streamlined to help parents better understand their rights under the special education regulations.
You can find the procedural safeguards on the Department’s Special Education website. This document offers SAUs helpful guidance that they may provide to parents. Please note that this document does not replace the official, mandated procedural safeguards, but acts as a supplement only.
