DOE offers training for special educators

The Maine DOE Office of Special Services strongly encourages school districts to attend professional development sessions in evidence-based practice and ongoing technical assistance. The Department’s support will help districts meet the U.S. Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs’ compliance requirements specific to transition planning, least restrictive environment, and aligning IEP goals with the Common Core State Standards.

Professional development and technical assistance in the General Supervision System will be provided by the Department through the State Personnel Development Grant. Maine DOE requests that one special education administrator, one transition coordinator and/or one other secondary special education teacher from each district attend a full day of professional development training.
