The State Interagency Coordinating Council’s initial meeting for this year is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Cross State Office Building in Augusta. The council will be meeting in Room 541 (fifth floor) of the Cross Building.
Future meetings are scheduled to take place at the Cross Building, as well:
- Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, from 1 to 3 p.m., Room 600 (sixth floor)
- Wednesday, Jan. 16 , 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m., Room 103 (first floor) (Snow day for this meeting: Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, same time and place)
- Tuesday, April 2, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m., Room 541 (fifth floor)
Additional meetings may be scheduled if determined to be necessary by the council members.
The initial meeting will be a time to learn about the advisory role of the council and its responsibilities, as well as the members’ perspectives on this work.
The December and January meetings will center largely on one of the required duties of this advisory council–namely, the preparation and submission of an annual report to the Governor and to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education on the status of early intervention service programs for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families, under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as implemented in Maine. Staff in the Maine DOE have always provided ongoing support with respect to this activity, and they will be prepared to share their draft report with you at the December and January meetings, to allow for review and discussion with you prior to the required Feb. 1, 2013, submission date to the U.S. DOE.
Please contact the Department at least 10 days prior to the meeting if you need an interpreter or any other services to ensure your opportunity to attend the meetings. Please contact Susan Corrente, Maine DOE, with those requests, or if you have any questions.
