The Maine Department of Education’s Child Nutrition Services team encourages community members to help prevent food insecurity and hunger among Maine’s children by becoming 2013 Summer Food Service Program sponsors. Managers, recreation departments, librarians, school superintendents, food pantries, summer residential camps, private non-profit organizations—anyone interested in helping to solve hunger at the local level is invited to participate.
Learn more about SFSP at the Summer Summit, which will be held March 13, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The SFSP intends to promote and continue the nutritional care and education of children during the summer months when the school breakfast and lunch programs are unavailable. For many Maine children, summer vacation brings an increased risk of hunger and developmental decline. The SFSP, with support from the USDA, can help lower-income children return to school ready to learn.
To register for the Summit, contact Stephanie Clark at stephanie.clark@maine.gov or 207-624-6842. Registration is due March 1, along with your $15 lunch fee. The event will be held at the Maine Department of Public Safety in Augusta.
Help end hunger this summer and make a difference in the life of children right in your community.
