First summer food service summit a success

The Maine DOE Child Nutrition Department’s first Summer Food Service Program Summer Summit, held March 13, drew 84 attendees from all counties in Maine. At the event, the program sponsors shared best practices, outreach stories and creative resources.

Guest speakers provided an array of topics and resources that will help current and future sponsors have a successful Summer Food Service Program—enabling the program to provide more summer meals to Maine’s low-income children. The Maine DOE Child Nutrition Department is dedicated and working hard to increase the food service program for summer 2013 and beyond.  This year, for the first time, every county in Maine will be offering the program, helping to close the door on summer hunger.
