Maine DOE has prepared a summary of major laws related to education enacted by the First Regular Session of the 126th Maine Legislature. This information may prove helpful to educators when planning during the 2013-14 school year.
For each relevant bill, the summary lists the provisions, effective date, action required by the bill and primary contact person at the Department and/or the State Board of Education.
An “Emergency” marking refers to legislation that can take effect immediately upon being signed by the Governor and receiving approval from two-thirds of the Maine Legislature. The general effective date for non-emergency laws passed in the Second Regular Session is Oct. 9, 2013.
The summary can be found at www.maine.gov/doe/rule/index.html.
