Maine’s County Teachers of the Year one step closer

Maine’s County Teachers of the Year have been hard at work this summer. They have now completed their oral presentations and are one step closer to becoming Maine’s State Teacher of the Year. These 16 teachers, representing every area of our state, have developed a platform that keep students at the center of their work advocating for teachers, students, and quality education in Maine.

The Maine County Teachers of the Year is an initiative of the Maine State Teacher of the Year program to honor and recognize more of Maine’s exemplary classroom teachers. By partnering with school districts and Chambers of Commerce around Maine, the initiative’s goal is to ensure more teachers, in more schools, get the recognition they deserve. All 16 teachers serve as ambassadors for teachers, students, and quality education in Maine. During their year of service they participate in one of the most intensive State Teacher of the Year selection processes in the nation. Once the process is complete, 1 out of the 16 will be selected as the 2015 State Teacher of the Year and continue on with another year of service representing Maine’s great teachers.

Maine’s Teacher of the Year program is managed by Educate Maine in partnership with the Maine Department of Education, and supported by the Maine State Board of Education and the Maine State Teacher of the Year Association. Funding support comes from Bangor Savings Bank, Geiger, Hannaford Supermarkets and Unum.
