Cross Disciplinary Literacy Network registration now open

The Department is encouraging Maine educators to register for the Cross Discipline Literacy Network (CDLN) for the 2014-15 school year. The CDLN is a professional learning network focused on helping PK-12 educators learn and apply literacy strategies to improve content instruction that promotes student proficiency. The network operates regionally across the state, utilizing both face-to-face networking experiences and online webinar sessions.

It is widely understood that content areas contribute to the development of literacy skills which support students in understanding and communicating about content. This year the CDLN will offer webinars organized by content specific topics, including offering World Languages and Health and Physical Education strands for the first time.

To explore all of the webinar offerings, find information about the in-person Dine and Discuss sessions and access the online registration, visit the Cross Discipline Literacy Network page of the Department’s website

This low-cost, high-quality opportunity allows Maine educators to learn from each other across content areas and grade levels. The cost is $40 per year and the registration deadline is Oct. 13. For more information on becoming a member of the CDLN or for technical assistance, contact Maine DOE English Language Arts Specialist Lee Anne Larsen at leeann.larsen@maine.gov or 624-6628.
