The 23 Academy Fellows who graduated from the Governor’s Academy for STEM Education Leadership program this summer were provided with professional development opportunities designed to build leadership qualities with a focus on STEM integration.
Over the two-year period of the Academy, fellows were instructed by and interacted with some of the nation’s leading experts on content specific formative assessment, STEM integration, standards and presentation skills. In addition to access to national experts and current research and resources for the content areas in the STEM field, fellows were also provided with mentors who are past Academy graduates.
The Governor’s Academy for STEM Education Leadership was supported by funding from the federal Title II and participating districts, and was delivered in collaboration with the Maine DOE and the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance. Maine DOE Math Specialist Michele Mailhot, Maine DOE Science and Technology Specialist Shari Templeton, Maine DOE Coordinator for Standards and Instruction Anita Bernhardt, and Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance Science Specialist Joyce Tugel coordinated the leadership academy.
