Maine DOE invites educators to Summer Literacy Institute

The Maine DOE is encouraging teams of educators to attend its 2015 Summer Literacy Institute.

During the two-day sessions scheduled around the state in August, educators will explore methods for intentionally planning and delivering high quality English language arts/literacy instruction that supports achievement of proficiency.

To support successful transitions to proficiency-based systems, educators need deep knowledge of Maine’s learning standards and consistent understanding of rigorous outcomes.

Institute topics will include determining worthy texts, understanding how to group or “bundle” learning standards for developing units of study and purposeful assessments, creating meaningful text sets and methods of building knowledge across disciplines. Teams will have opportunities throughout the institute to reflect and plan for follow through in their schools and districts.
