Students prepare for business careers at state DECA conference

More than 100 students gathered last month for the Maine DECA 47th State Career Development Conference.

The annual conference featured a competition in which students were presented with challenging business case problems with volunteer business professionals serving as judges. Students also competed in proficiency and occupational testing. The top finalist will travel to Florida this spring to compete against thousands of other students at DECA’s international conference.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in business, marketing and management. Maine DECA has more than 100 members from five high schools and career technical centers. Through the program, students work to develop leadership abilities, social and business etiquette, civic responsibility, ethical behavior in personal and business relationships, and to understand the role of the free enterprise system in a global economy.
