Maine Arts Commission seeks teacher leaders for assessment initiative

The Maine Arts Commission is inviting visual and performing arts teachers to consider being a teacher leader with the Maine Arts Assessment Initiative (MAAI), phase 5.

Specifically, MAAI is looking for teachers interested in leading and in taking a close look at assessment in the arts.

MAAI’s mission is to create an environment in Maine where quality assessment in arts education is an integral part of the work all arts educators do to improve student achievement in the arts. The initiative is a program of the Maine Arts Commission with the following partners: Maine DOE, Maine Art Education Association, Maine Music Educators Association, University of Southern Maine, Maine Learning Technology Initiative, University of Maine Performing Arts and New England Institute for Teacher Education.

Since 2011, MAAI has been building capacity by providing arts educators professional development on the “what” and “how” of arts assessment to apply to their teaching practice in the proficiency based education environment. In addition, they provide workshops for other arts teachers. To date, 61 teachers have taken on the role of teacher leader.

Applications for phase 5 of the MAAI are available here and due by Wednesday, May 6.
