Transitions suicide prevention training Feb. 25

In an effort to continue our support of Maine’s youth, Maine DOE in collaboration with Suicide Prevention Training contractor NAMI Maine, will be offering the Transitions Lessons Teacher Training on February 25. In order to attend, participants must have previously completed Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training.

This curriculum program is designed to help schools reinforce concepts presented in the school health curriculum and better prepare high school seniors for life after high school.

These lessons address the changes that students will experience in their lives after graduation. It is recommended that the training participants work in a school that has implemented a comprehensive suicide prevention program that includes administrative protocols, agreements with community crisis providers, suicide awareness training for all staff, suicide prevention education for students, and a school climate that promotes safety and respect for all.

Who should attend? Guidance and counseling training is for all school staff and contracted personnel including social workers and school-based clinicians who interface with high school seniors.

The Transitions Lessons Curricula Session is being held Thursday, Feb. 25  in room 103 of the Burton Cross State Office Building at 111 Sewall Street in Augusta.
