School transportation: improving safety, reducing costs

The Maine Department of Education, in collaboration with Transfinder and Core Education and Consulting, is helping school districts that use transportation operations analyses improve fleet safety while reducing operations costs.

Transfinder allows districts to track and analyze routing, schedule and manage field trips, plan maintenance, analyze redistricting, track special needs transport, communicate with parents and the community, and improve emergency preparedness. Safety and efficiency are the main goals for the users of the new software.

Recent case studies show how different types of districts – whether they are small, large, rural or urban – are benefiting by making use of new software technology. For example, RSU 6 saved approximately $100,000 per year.
