The following information was shared in the last Maine DOE Update. Please note this is a proposed rule.
The Maine DOE is proposing rule language required by Public Law, Chapter 140, pursuant to Maine Revised Statutes, Title 20-A, section 6304, An Act to Require Public Schools to Offer Instruction Related to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and the Use of an Automated External Defibrillator. The law states public schools shall offer training to students on how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use automated external defibrillators.
The proposed rule is designed to ensure that the training requirements can be met without public schools being required to expand or modify their activities so as to necessitate additional expenditures from local revenues.
Proposed language of the new rule Chapter 41 can be found here.
The deadline for comments is September 2. Comments can be sent to the Maine DOE Health Education and Health Promotion Coordinator Susan Berry at susan.berry@maine.gov.
