Contribute to SBAC by joining Maine’s State Network of Educators

Update: The deadline for this application has been extended to June 14.

Maine, a member of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, is seeking educators who have significant experience in formative assessment and deep knowledge of the Common Core State Standards to join Maine’s State Network of Educators (SNE). The Maine DOE invites K-12 teachers and administrators and higher educational professionals to apply if they have experience working with the following student populations: general education, gifted and talented, English language learners and students with disabilities. Preview new English language proficiency test

The 31 states that have banded together to create a new, computer-based assessment system for English language learners are getting their first glimpses at the new English-language proficiency exam being developed to measure the language demands of the Common Core State Standards. Prototypes will be available to the public in the summer.

Communities invited to annual Literacy for ME conference

The Maine Department of Education’s Literacy for ME initiative is partnering with the Barbara Bush Foundation as a co-sponsor of its annual Literacy Connections Conference, open to anyone with an interest in the initiative. This conference will allow attendees to learn more about a variety of aspects of the Literacy for ME initiative, community literacy planning, and general literacy topics across the birth-adult span.

Maine Constitution essay and poster contest now open

The Secretary of State’s Office will continue its most popular student program, the Maine Constitution Essay and Poster Contest. This program is designed to promote the history of Maine, an understanding of the Maine Constitution, and the importance of democracy and voting.

Learn to support ELL students through technology

The University of Maine Project Reach program invites teachers of English language learners to attend a free two-hour workshop to discover how a variety of readily available technology tools (e.g. digital cameras, computers and IPads) can be used in intentional ways to provide new educational opportunities for diverse learners, including young children (grades PreK through third) learning English.
