It’s critical information for local districts as they plan their budgets for the coming school year. It’s important to note, however, that these figures are estimates and should not be entered into budgets as definitive figures.
First, the numbers are still subject to legislative action. Second, the aid estimates we’ll provide are based on a number of factors that are impossible to know at this point, such as student enrollment and the size of districts’ special education populations. For those reasons, subsidy amounts to be released later could still change.
Preliminary State subsidy information for school administrative units will be available this afternoon at 1 p.m. on the Maine DOE website. These subsidy amounts for FY 2012-13 are only preliminary and do not represent final action of the 125th Legislature and therefore should only be used as “initial” guidance for your budget preparations. Some calculations included in these amounts are dependent upon enactment of statutory changes.

Maine prepares for move to more advanced assessment system in three years
AUGUSTA – Maine students improved slightly in reading and more significantly in math in the latest New England Common Assessment Program tests, taken in October 2011. In writing, there was a slight decrease.
The Maine Department of Education will begin to withhold state subsidy payments for school units that have not submitted financial audits by Feb. 15.
