Sessions help educators support military children

The Military Child Education Coalition is offering workshops in Portland and Bangor in April that could be helpful to educators in better serving students from military families.

The Portland session takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 3, and is called “Living In the New Normal: Helping Children Thrive In Good and Challenging Times.” The session will help participants understand what the “new normal” is when military personnel are deployed.

The Bangor session takes place April 5-6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. The session is called “Guard and Reserve Institute: Supporting Children of the National Guard and Reserve,” and is meant to familiarize participants with military culture and the challenges of deployment for families who are geographically dispersed within our state.

The workshops take place during April, which is the Month of the Military Child.
