A coalition of non-profit, social-service agencies is looking for 2,000 pre-orders of the Maine License Plate for Kids so the new specialty plate can become a reality.
Proceeds from sales of the specialty plate would be split between two state agencies to support recreation programs for children, especially those living in foster care and low-income families.
Sixty percent of the funds would flow to Department of Health and Human Services programs. The other 40 percent would flow to schools through the Department of Education to fund after-school and summer programming.
Programs supported would include field trips, after-school programs and summer camps.
