Concerns about shrinking school budgets and standardized testing, enthusiasm about the new Common Core state standards, and an eagerness to have a singular guiding vision for education in Maine.
That’s some of what Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen heard on the road this spring as he went about his 100-day listening tour of Maine schools, Bowen wrote in an op ed in the June 25 edition of the Bangor Daily News.
The listening tour took Bowen to each of Maine’s nine superintendent regions for school visits and community meetings in his first 100 days as the state’s Commissioner of Education.
