The Maine Department of Education is seeking comments from the public on its application for federal funds under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which covers services for infants and toddlers (birth through age 2) with disabilities.
Maine is required to complete an application for the IDEA Part C program annually. The General Education Provisions Act requires that the State publish each proposed application in a manner that will ensure circulation throughout the state at least 60 days prior to the date on which the plan is submitted or on which the plan becomes effective.
Superintendents, special education directors, Child Development Services regional directors and others are encouraged to review the application and submit comments.
The application, which covers Maine Fiscal Year 2013 (which starts July 1), is posted on the Department of Education’s special education applications web page.
Written comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. on April 5. Send comments to Cindy Brown, Interim State Director of Child Development Services, at cindy.brown@maine.gov or 23 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333.
