Because Maine is a governing state for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, the Maine Department of Education encourages qualified grades 3-11 English language arts/literacy and mathematics teachers to apply to become item authors for the Consortium.
From June 1 through August 15, selected participants will create a combination of performance tasks, selected-response items and constructed-response items for new assessments, in accordance with Smarter Balanced content specifications and item/task specifications.
Qualified teachers will complete online training sessions and collaborate with small groups in order to construct items. The assessment will be administered in Maine schools, grades 3-8 and high school, during the 2014/2015 school year.
The deadline for applying is June 4, 2012.
