Training for those helping youth transition from detention facilities

Anyone who works with youth transitioning from a juvenile detention facility to school is invited to attend a training workshop sponsored in part by Project IMPACT (Interagency Model Project for Academic and Correctional Transition).

During training, attendees will gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of both Project IMPACT and their schools in the mandated school reintegration process. The workshop aims to help strengthen working relationships between the Maine Department of Corrections and school reintegration teams.

The workshop, titled “Partnering for Successful School Reintegration of Students Being Released from Long Creek Youth Development Center,” will be held Oct. 26, 2012, at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the workshop will end at 2 p.m., with lunch included.

To register, please contact Susan Pettingill, coordinator of Project IMPACT, at susan.pettingill@maine.gov or 822-2732.

This training workshop is also sponsored by the Maine Department of Education and the Maine Department of Corrections.
