Mandatory race and ethnicity reports due Nov. 30

The 2012 EEO-5 Online Filing System is now open and accepting annual reports from school districts in either the revised race and ethnicity categories or the prior U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission race and ethnicity categories.

The deadline for completing this mandatory report is Nov. 30, 2012.

Beginning in the 2014 reporting cycle, EEOC will only accept EEO-5 reports with the revised race and ethnicity categories.

Since 1974, elementary and secondary public school systems and districts have been required to submit bi-annual EEO-5 reports, which detail the composition of their work forces disaggregated by sex and race/ethnic categories, to the EEOC.

To promote consistency and minimize reporting burden, the Commission approved the EEO-5 report with new race and ethnicity categories that are consistent with the categories used by the U.S. Department of Education.
