Shari Templeton joins Maine DOE as Science Specialist

Shari Templeton has joined the Maine DOE as its Science and Technology Specialist. In her new role, Templeton will support districts in their implementation of best practices in science education, work on the development of the State science assessment and serve as the regional representative for York County.

Templeton brings a passion for science education and student learning to the Department. She has gained her expertise over 31 years in her service to four districts in Maine and Connecticut, most recently as a teacher at Wiscasset High School and as RSU 12’s K-12 Science Coordinator.

Templeton earned a Bachelor of Science from Taylor University in Indiana with a triple major in Communications, Environmental Science and Systems Analysis and has taken advanced science coursework. She is excited about the opportunity to support science education at a time when STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is so important to economic development and individual success. She brings her understanding of K-12 systems and teaching and learning to her new role.

Former Maine DOE Science and Technology Specialist Anita Bernhardt now serves as the Department’s Coordinator for Standards and Instruction.
