The Maine DOE is reminding district leaders that the School Facility Management System (SFMS) provided to school administrative units (SAU) through the Maine DOE will no longer be available after June 30, the end date of the current contract with WFA, Inc., the software provider.
SAUs are encouraged to extract their building information from SFMS prior to June 30 as you are still required to establish facility maintenance and capital improvement plans. The required content for these plans is detailed in Rules Chapter 64, Section 2 (A, B, and C). The format of your plans may be determined at the local level.
It is not necessary to submit SAU facility maintenance and capital improvement plans to the Department on an annual basis, however, SAUs will continue to verify their compliance every three years through the SAU Basic School Approval Form (EF-I-291).
Maine DOE staff is aware that SAUs are being approached by vendors offering various services regarding SAU data and capital planning software. As these offers are considered locally, please contact the Department’s School Facilities Specialist Ann Pinnette at 207-624-6885 or ann.pinnette@maine.gov for questions regard the State’s requirements.
