The Maine Science Teachers Association Annual Conference “Building on the Framework for K-12 Science Education” will be held Oct. 9 at Gardiner Area High School.
A total of 44 workshops/sessions will be offered across all grade spans and along three strands:
- Three-Dimensional Learning
- Informal Science / Science Beyond the Classroom Walls
- Promoting Science in PreK-5
Headlining this year’s conference is Dr. Cary Sneider from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. His list of contributions to the world of science education include serving as one of four design team leaders for A Framework for K-12 Science Education. Dr. Sneider was also on the writing team for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), was vice president for programs at the Boston Museum of Science, and currently teaches courses in research methodology. Dr. Sneider will deliver the Keynote address along with hosting a workshop, “It’s Not Rocket Science. . . It’s Rocket Engineering!”
