The Maine Department of Education will conduct its annual Back to Basics training on August 23. This two-day event will provide an orientation for new school nutrition directors and other program staff involved in the oversight and administration of school nutrition programs who are interested in a refresher.
The training will cover the regulations pertaining to USDA meal programs including meal patterns, production records, menu planning, and food safety and sanitation.
The second day of the training will focus on the financial and reporting side of school nutrition programs. Business managers and superintendents are welcome to attend in addition to school nutrition administrators. Topics will include determining student eligibility for meals, proper accountability, procurement and navigating Maine DOE’s data management system NEO.
