RTI launches new website and support guidelines
The Maine DOE recently revamped its RTI website, offering guidance tools to help schools and teachers identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, identify students with disabilities, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust the intensity of those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness.

RTI best practices subject of conference
K-12 staff from around the state are invited to discuss best practices surrounding response to intervention (RTI), standards-based learning and learner-centered instruction at the Experts Down the Hall Conference on Oct. 29 at the Augusta Civic Center.
Students statewide begin online AP courses

Make pledge, observe 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance
The “I Will” service project initiative calls on each citizen to pay tribute to 9/11 victims and first responders by performing a “good deed,” meaning a personal act of service or an act of “neighboring,” on the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. “I Will” is organized nationally by My Good Deed, a foundation started by family members of those lost on 9/11.

Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen issued the following statement in response to today’s release of “Achievement Growth: International and U.S. State Trends in Student Performance” by Harvard’s Program on Education Policy and Governance.

UPDATED: The program will launch on August 16 and 17 with an opening retreat and will conclude in late June 2013.
